Born and raised in Escondido, Elias “Eli” Velazquez has dedicated his life to serving underprivileged communities, like the one in which he grew up. From supporting disadvantaged veterans and their families to running a small business during the COVID-19 pandemic, Eli has always put people first.
Today, as a nonprofit leader tackling homelessness and addiction, he brings hands-on experience, compassion, and proven results to the table. Guided by the values of integrity, service, and community, Eli is dedicated to enhancing Escondido and ensuring that every neighbor has the opportunity to thrive.

Elias supports the development of new affordable housing in Escondido. In his current role, he pairs individuals with affordable housing as a means of addressing homelessness. This ensuring Escondidans can continue living in the community they call home.
The current mayor has voted against nearly 100 new housing units, including affordable housing.

Elias believes true public safety means investing in both law enforcement and community programs that prevent crime before it happens. Safe neighborhoods require collaboration, not neglect.
Under the current mayor, Escondido has seen an increase of 6.5% in Violent Crime and 11.1% in Robberies

Elias knows residents are frustrated with potholes, aging roads, and worsening traffic. He believes Escondido needs to prioritize investment in infrastructure and smarter traffic solutions.
Meanwhile, the current mayor has alienated the City from local transportation agencies. Leaving Escondido, the City that most uses public transportation, cut out of major projects.
